Giraffe farm
The second assignment given to us using Photoshop was to create a 6 layer picture. We were to find a background that was fairly open so we would have plenty of space to add five more images on top. The idea was to take multiple pictures and create one new picture that looks somewhat realistic by using the new tools we were shown how to use in Photoshop.

Polaroid
The first assignment we were given in Photoshop was to create a 3 layer picture. The first layer was to be a self portrait, the second was to be a background of an important place to us, and the third was to be an object that represented a hobby that we enjoy. I placed myself in a field next to my house that my brothers and I used to play in when we were kids. For the object I gave the picture a polaroid frame because I really enjoy taking polaroid pictures with the camera I got for my last birthday.

Reaction
I'm not completely sure how to respond to the creativity strangled clip, because I'm very apathetic about government issues. I know that sounds pretty awful, but I think it's just because whenever government issues are mentioned it's usually in a negative context so instead of getting fired up about it I tend to just overlook it and try not to dwell on it for too long. I believe creativity is a gift that no one should ever posses enough power to put restraints on. With technology the way it is today it's nearly impossibly to live without it or even escape from it. My generation has come to the point where computers are taking over nearly everything, specifically the arts. There are many artists whose jobs are being replaced by younger graphic artists who know how to use the latest software and whatnot. There seems to be endless possibilities of ways one can be creative with a computer, and it only seems to be the beginning. I can't imagine what my children are going to be able to do on computers one day. I understand why the government feels the need to make restraints for the sake of copyright laws, however they need to come to the understanding that having technology the way that it is today--you're just asking for people to make violations. It just seems completely absurd to put in front of someone all of the right software they would need to create something illegal, and then tell them that they can't make it. To me that's just asking people to "live life against the law", which is why it makes sense that so many of us do on a daily basis.
That's my take on the clip, although I'm not quite sure if that's what I was supposed to get from the clip or not.

Final Assignment in Adobe
Our final assignment given to us in Adobe Illustrator was to create a portrait of someone special in our lives in a significant place, and in a different style than our previous assignments. We were allowed to use any of the tools that we were taught in Adobe over the past few weeks. I created a picture of my boyfriend, Brandt, because he's not just my boyfriend--he's also my best friend. He's holding a camera because he really enjoys photography, and he's on the rooftop deck of the house we stayed at last summer at Okracoke Island (part of the OBX). I like the finished picture, however I don't think I successfully achieved the different style approach :/
Tracing tool
The last major tool we were taught in Adobe Illustrator was the tracing tool. Although some people might consider it to be cheating in a way, Sam showed us a few clips from the movie Waking Life, which really brought out the art in using a tool such as tracing. We were then assigned to create a portrait of ourselves in a location that represented home. I chose to portray myself overlooking the Susquehanna River from Chickie's Rock, which is a place my boyfriend and I like to visit.
Special Object
We were asked to create another object that at a special meaning to us, which we could use any of the tools we had previously learned to create. I chose to create a watch that my boyfriend gave to me for Christmas last year.
Not only were we taught how to use the gradient tool but we were also taught how to type on a line using the type on a path tool. With this tool we were also instructed to create a self portrait using mostly all words, but not just any words--words that had a special meaning to us in some way. So, I created a self portrait out of the lyrics from Sara by Fleetwood Mac which my parents named me after. The song is pretty bad, but it worked for the assignment. However, for some reason this image will not upload correctly--if I figure i t out I will post it later.

Gradient tool
I'm a bit behind on this blogging thing, so I'm going to attempt to catch up! The assignment fallowing the sign assignment was to use the new gradient tool to create "shiny" objects such as ipods and cell phones to make them appear more realistically. I chose to create my very new chocolate cell phone. I dropped it in a cup of juice the following weekend, so now it doesn't really work like it's very brand new.

Jasper & Timothy
The highlight of my weekend was going to Petco with my boyfriend, Brandt, and buying two baby mice. They are precious as can be. However, they do like too poop an outrageous amount, but I believe febreeze should take care of that!
Other than buying Jasper and Timothy I really can't say my weekend has been too exciting. As far as school is going I'm pretty stoked about it. It's all really new to me, but from what I can tell I'm pretty certain Tyler is just where I'm supposed to be. I'm really nervous about drawing class, because I'm not too confident in my drawing skills, but I think I'm already slowly starting to show progress. We're currently working with pastels, which is great because I really enjoy working with color. My first assignment is to draw a still life using pastel and charcoal, and I'm really hoping that turns out the way I'm envisioning it. We shall see.
